Tuteliq is now a member of OSTIA, the Online Safety Tech Industry Association. Why we joined, and how we help platforms make safety by design real.

We’re proud to share that Tuteliq is now a member of OSTIA, the Online Safety Tech Industry Association.

OSTIA is the industry body for UK online safety technology. It brings together the companies building practical tools that make the internet safer, and gives them a shared voice with policymakers and the wider industry.

Starting from what can be done

Too much of the online safety debate focuses on what can’t be done. Detection is said to be too hard, too costly, or impossible without giving up privacy. OSTIA starts from what can be done, and so do we.

Platforms now face clear duties under the Online Safety Act, and regulators are no longer willing to wait. What many teams need is evidence that effective, proportionate safety tools already exist and can be built into a product without a dedicated engineering team. A strong, joined-up safety tech sector is how that evidence reaches the people who need it.

What Tuteliq brings

Tuteliq gives platforms a single API that detects harms such as grooming, sextortion and coercion as they emerge. It works across text, voice, image and video, in 32 languages, with zero data retention.

Our approach comes from criminology. Harm to children rarely arrives as one bad message. It’s a pattern of behaviour that unfolds over time: a compliment, a move to a private channel, a request for secrecy, an escalation. Each step can look harmless on its own. Our models look for the pattern, so platforms can see risk while it’s still forming, rather than after harm has happened.

Why now

We opened our UK base in Liverpool this summer, and since then we’ve wanted to work more closely with the UK online safety community. Joining OSTIA lets us:

share what we’re learning about how harm develops and how it can be detected early learn from fellow members building complementary tools help show regulators and platforms that safety by design is achievable today Thank you

Thank you to the OSTIA team for the warm welcome. We look forward to working with fellow members to make safer platforms the norm.
